I want to understand Shadow.  Not the petty understanding of most of the family - it's there, it exists - but the hows and whys and wherefores of it.  What is this thing that our blood has created?  How long must one stay in a place to start to cast shadows?  What are the effects to the body of Shadow when a single Shadow is destroyed?  To the local Shadows?  To the cast Shadows of that place?
 
I have so many question, and only this one lifetime in which to find answers...

"There is nothing more sacred to me than the record of my work, my tomes.  Every Shadow I have visited, every Shadow I can find that my father and siblings have visited - it's all in there.  There is nothing more important to me than these books; there is research there that can never be duplicated, and research that would take me another lifetime to reproduce."
