So what if - we were looking for a good explanation for why Elaine isn't swinging from a tree somewhere, right? - what if Elaine's mother comes from whatever Shadow Isadora was hiding out in. In theory, Aber had to visit his sister at least a few times to do that spell, giving opportunity for Elaine's conception and possibly a few lessons, enough to at least have met dad a few times.

Then, betrayal/assassination attempt/spell gets lifted - and there's this kid, back in the Shadow. And Isadora got back there first.
